Spooky Season Gets Star-Studded on Graham Norton’s Famous Red Sofa
It’s spooky season, and some of our favorite stars are sharing their ghastly experiences — because apparently fame, awards and a seat on Graham Norton’s red sofa do absolutely nothing to keep ghosts, Ouija boards and unexplained things from finding you.
The Graham Norton Show pulled together a deliciously creepy collection of celebrity stories that veer from genuinely eerie to wonderfully ridiculous. There are haunted homes, psychic encounters, ominous messages from a Ouija board, horror-set scares and enough “well, that’s odd” moments to make you think twice about checking the clock at 11:11.

Spooky Stories From Graham Norton’s Sofa
Ghosts, Ouija boards, haunted houses and horror-set scares — some of Graham Norton’s guests have stories that fit the season a little too perfectly.

11:11, Ouija Boards and One Very Unwelcome Message
One story begins with a strange pattern during the making of The Sixth Sense: waking night after night to clocks reading 11:11 or 1:11. Whether coincidence, subconscious timing or something a little less explainable, the repetition was memorable enough to stick.
Then comes the Ouija board material, which is where the sofa takes a proper turn. One group says the board spelled out “knowledge is not free”; when they asked what the price was, the answer came back: “your life.” The glass then shot off the table. Charming.

Haunted Houses, Psychics and Celebrities Who Just Went With It
The collection gets even better once the ghosts move indoors. Cate Blanchett recalls living as a drama student in a Sydney house where a woman had been murdered in the very room she was renting. After years of expecting some supernatural payoff, Blanchett says the only unexplained moment came as she finally left — when she heard someone call her name from inside the empty house.
Sam Smith, meanwhile, describes a ghostly nun in a first home and eventually reaching a surprisingly practical arrangement with her. After some unsettling nights, Smith says they simply sat up, clapped and told the ghost, “Listen, babe. I need to get some sleep.” Apparently, boundaries work in the afterlife too.
Elsewhere, a psychic session takes a royal turn when Princess Margaret is said to make an appearance from beyond, offering an acting note about getting the smoking right. Whether you believe in mediumship or not, it is difficult to argue with a ghost arriving with performance direction.
Daniel Radcliffe, Sarah Paulson and the Horror of Real-Life Fear
The spooky compilation also wanders onto horror sets. Daniel Radcliffe remembers the cast and crew of The Woman in Black trying to scare one another between takes, only for his body double to win by hiding in the footwell of Radcliffe’s car and springing out at him.
And then there is Sarah Paulson, whose résumé may be packed with American Horror Story, but whose real-life fears include bees, honeycomb, sponges and clusters of holes. Graham’s couch quickly discovers that horror is very much in the eye of the beholder.
