The five-piece — Katya Birkeland, Lily Christlow, Thea Gundersen, Mia Halvorsen and Maria Tollisen — built Girl Group after meeting in Liverpool, eventually turning a shared frustration with the music industry into a band whose pop comes wrapped in glitter, humor and a very real feminist bite.
With “SuperDrug,” that bite lands squarely on women’s health. When the single arrived in January, the group explained that they had long wanted to write about contraception because all five members — along with many women they know — had endured difficult experiences with hormonal birth control, many of them while still very young.
Crucially, Girl Group have also been clear that the track is not an anti-pill anthem. Their frustration is aimed at the lack of research, information and serious conversation around side effects, especially when young women are handed contraception without always feeling fully informed about what it may do to their bodies. That nuance matters — and it gives all the candy-coated hooks a much sharper aftertaste.
“SuperDrug” appears on Little Sticky Pictures, Girl Group’s six-track EP released March 20, 2026. The project also includes “Rage Song,” “She Goes,” “Hate The Girls! (Interlude),” “Tell Me I’m Pretty” and the wonderfully abrupt opener “An Entire Person.” It is a compact little blast of songs that keeps doing one of Girl Group’s best tricks: making politically and emotionally loaded ideas feel ridiculously easy to dance to.
That is also why they keep ending up back on our radar. Girl Group know how to make the message part of the pleasure instead of stopping the song dead to explain itself. The production stays sticky, the melodies stay immediate and the lyrical punch sneaks in after you are already moving.
