COME THRU VOCALS — Daily Vocal Discoveries from INYIM Media

Come Thru Vocals is a long-running It’s Not You It’s Me Media series spotlighting standout vocal performances, emerging artists and new songs worth adding to your rotation. Curated by the INYIM music desk, many selections later appear in the Musique Dig’s Weekly Playlist and enter rotation on INYIM Radio.
Today’s Come Thru Vocals pairs Father John Misty’s “The Payoff” with Gelli Haha’s “Gelliverse.” Saturday is getting wonderfully left-field: one selection drifts in with smoky existential croon, while the other turns art-pop into a red-lit cartoon playground. Different planets, same good-taste orbit.

Not every Saturday needs to be tidy. Sometimes the playlist has to take the scenic route, roll its windows down, and let a couple of beautifully strange voices run the room.
That is the lane today: Father John Misty stretching into a patient, cinematic slow burn, followed by Gelli Haha tossing glitter, theater-kid chaos, and left-of-center pop instinct into the same discovery bag.

Father John Misty
Tune: “The Payoff”
Father John Misty lets “The Payoff” move like a late-night confession with an expensive hangover. The vocal does not rush for the exit; it sits in the ache, lets the piano smoke up the corners, and turns the slow reveal into the whole point. A little wounded, a little wry, very much in the Misty zone.

Gelli Haha
Tune: “Gelliverse”
Gelli Haha makes “Gelliverse” feel like someone opened a portal between Studio 54, public-access television, and a candy-red fever dream. The vocal is playful without being lightweight, theatrical without going full costume-bin disaster, and strange in a way that feels completely intentional. We love a left turn when the steering wheel has personality.
