Today’s Throwback Thursday shines a well-deserved legendary spotlight on forevermore Broadway icon Carol Channing.

American Masters Executive Producer Michael Kantor interviewed Channing back in 1997 for his six-hour PBS series, Broadway: The American Musical. In this archival clip, Channing discusses how musical comedy has its roots in diverse cultural heritage, offering insight into the art form’s layered history.

Kantor remembers Channing as “one of a kind, seemingly bigger than life.” Her charisma, wit, and singular voice helped define an era of Broadway that continues to inspire.
