Almost four decades—38 years to be exact—after the song came about, Rick Astley’s iconic tune has reached a remarkable milestone. It’s trippy and noteworthy to mention that the song was unleashed more than 20 years before Spotify even existed.
Rick the man himself spilled the following in a statement on his socials:
“I never could have imagined back in 1987 that ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ would still be going strong decades later.”
Astley continued, “Thanks to streaming platforms, a whole new generation has been able to discover music like mine. Reaching 1 billion streams is something I never dreamed of and to everyone who’s ever listened, thank you.”
