The 28th Annual Critics Choice Award Nominations Are Here! With Leslie Jordan & Ray Liotta Posthumous Recognitions. (Airing Via The CW Dec. 14.)

"Abbott Elementary has topped the list of television nominees for the 2023 Critics Choice Awards, earning six nominations.

The ABC comedy series was nominated for best comedy series, best actress in a comedy series (Quinta Brunson), best supporting actor in comedy series (both Chris Perfetti and Tyler James Williams) and best actress in a comedy series (Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph).

AMC’s Better Call Saul followed with five nominations, including best drama series, best actor in a drama series (Bob Odenkirk), best supporting actor in a drama series (Giancarlo Esposito) and best supporting actress in a drama series (Carol Burnett and Rhea Seehorn).

Other notable nominees include Hulu’s Prey and The Roku Channel’s Weird: The Weird Al Yankovic Story, both nominated for best movie made for television. Their respective leads, Amber Midthunder and Daniel Radcliffe, were also nominated for best actress and best actor in a limited series or movie made for television. Freshman dramas Andor, Bad Sisters, House of the Dragon and Severance joined first-season comedies The Bear and Reboot in garnering series nominations.

The late Leslie Jordan was nominated for best supporting actor in a comedy series for his role in Call Me Kat. Ray Liotta also earned a posthumous nom for his supporting role in Apple TV+’s limited series Black Bird.

HBO/HBO Max scored the most nominees with a combined 21, followed by FX and Netflix with 15 each.

“As we embark on holding the 28th annual Critics Choice Awards, we are amazed by the wealth of remarkable television programs that were considered to become this year’s nominees,” said Critics Choice Association TV Branch co-president Ed Martin in a statement. “Clearly, the industry has rebounded in a big way. We look forward to honoring the year’s finest shows and performances at the upcoming awards ceremony.”

The 28th annual Critics Choice Awards will be held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, and air live on The CW from 7:00 – 10:00 pm ET. The nominees in the film categories will be announced on Dec. 14.
