Brazil’s Chillest Visitors Just Walked Straight Into Government

Present-day Developments: Brazil’s beloved furry fuzzballs have apparently decided representative government could use a little more capybara.
A group of the famously chill rodents wandered inside the Mato Grosso state legislature in Cuiabá, Brazil, casually roaming the building while staff worked to steer their unexpected guests back outside.
The visit was filmed on July 30 by legislative staffer Nayara Bueno. According to the Associated Press, the capybaras are not exactly first-time constituents: staff say they appear around the building fairly often, helped along by the legislature’s location beside a wildlife-rich park.

The Capybaras Apparently Know Their Way Around the Legislature
Bueno told the AP that seeing the animals around the property has become relatively normal. This time, however, they made it through the front door and into the legislative building itself, surprising lawmakers preparing for a vote.
Despite looking like they had arrived to table an extremely relaxed amendment, the capybaras caused no damage. Staff gently redirected them toward the neighboring park, and everybody—including thee capybaras—appears to have survived the brief governmental crossover just fine.
Capybaras are native to South America and are the world’s largest living rodents. They are semi-aquatic, highly social and can grow to around 80 kilograms, or 175 pounds—which somehow makes their calm little hallway stroll even better.

Global internet fame has already made the capybara shorthand for unbothered energy. Casually wandering into a legislative building, looking around and leaving without breaking anything may be the most on-brand contribution to that reputation yet.
