Brooklyn said, “Excuse us?” after footage showed a group of men rising from below like the city had unlocked a secret level.

This Just In: Where have all the good men gone?
Apparently, some of them may have been underground.
Video making the rounds shows a group of fellas climbing in and out of the New York City sewer system in Brooklyn, and now authorities are trying to figure out who they are, where they went, and why in the underground-city-of-it-all they were down there in the first place.
According to reports, one incident involved a group entering a manhole near McDonald Avenue and Colin Place in Brooklyn before resurfacing hours later. Another similar incident was reported near Heyward Street and Bedford Avenue, with investigators looking into whether the moments are connected.
NYPD and environmental officials have reportedly inspected the sewer system and said there is no public threat, but the mystery is still giving full “what exactly were y’all doing down there?” energy.
A group of men, a Brooklyn manhole, hours underground, and a city collectively asking the only reasonable question: why?

One leading theory reportedly being explored is that the group may have been looking for valuables that made their way into the sewer system. No arrests have been announced, and officials have not said the public is in danger.
Still, the footage is pure New York weirdness: late-night manhole activity, people climbing back up from below street level, and everyone on the internet immediately entering conspiracy-board mode.
Not the Ninja Turtles. Not the mole people. Just another day in the city where the sidewalk apparently has plot twists.
