Linda Cardellini Makes Pamela Voorhees the Horror Story This Time

Linda Cardellini is rowing straight into one of horror’s most cursed bodies of water. Peacock and A24’s Crystal Lake premieres October 15, 2026, turning the Friday the 13th mythology backward to ask what happened to Pamela Voorhees before her son became the hockey-masked nightmare everybody remembers.
The prequel follows Pamela nearly a year after young Jason drowned in the town lake. Still trapped inside her grief, the single mother is forced to confront her past when two strangers arrive at her door and begin asking questions. Their digging sets off a disturbing chain of events—and leaves Crystal Lake wondering whether Pamela is a victim, a threat or something far harder to name.

Cardellini steps into a role made infamous by Betsy Palmer in the original 1980 film, but Crystal Lake is not simply dragging Pamela toward an ending horror fans already know. The series puts her at the center, tracing the loss, suspicion and buried history surrounding Jason’s death while allowing the mother behind the legend to become the mystery herself.
Brad Caleb Kane, whose credits include It: Welcome to Derry, created the series and serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer. His approach pulls from the paranoid thrillers of the 1970s—mistrust, social pressure and institutions that may not protect anybody—while keeping the blood, deaths and slasher DNA firmly in the water.
Callum Vinson plays young Jason, with William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom joining the cast. The teaser does not rush to hand over the familiar mask. Instead, it follows Cardellini through grief, dread and a town already behaving like something rotten has been living beneath the surface for years.
That is the smarter route. Jason may be the franchise icon, but Pamela was the original film’s blade-wielding revelation. By giving her pain and unraveling an entire series to spread out, Crystal Lake has the chance to make the Voorhees family tragedy feel dangerous again instead of simply marching another silent killer through camp.
