June Carter Cash Finally Takes Center Stage in Her Own Story
June Carter Cash is finally getting the documentary spotlight all to herself. Paramount+ has unveiled the official trailer for JUNE, a feature-length film tracing the extraordinary life of the country singer, songwriter, comedian, musician, actor and author.
Premiering January 16, 2024 in the U.S. and Canada, the documentary digs into June’s own career and the Carter Family legacy before exploring the marriage and musical partnership that made her and Johnny Cash one of country music’s most recognizable couples.

Directed by Kristen Vaurio, JUNE uses rare and previously unseen archival material alongside interviews with family, friends and admirers. The lineup includes Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves and Reese Witherspoon, who portrayed Carter Cash in 2005’s Walk the Line.
And this is no side-note treatment. June was a five-time Grammy winner, a member of country music’s pioneering Carter Family, and a co-writer of “Ring of Fire.” Long before she became Mrs. Johnny Cash, she had already built a life in entertainment — opening for Elvis Presley and appearing onscreen with Robert Duvall and Jane Seymour.
The documentary also follows the complicated balance between June’s individual career and the enormous mythology surrounding Johnny Cash. That tension is part of what makes the film feel overdue: one of country music’s most familiar names finally gets to be treated as the main character instead of part of somebody else’s legend.
JUNE was produced by Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Entertainment and Maxine Productions, with June’s children John Carter Cash and Carlene Carter among the executive producers. The documentary had its world premiere at the DOC NYC Festival on November 12, 2023.
After its January 16 debut in North America, the film is set to arrive January 17 in the U.K., Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
