Netflix Built Wonka’s Factory — And This Time, You Can Actually Compete

Ring the bell-o — it’s Golden Ticket time. Netflix has officially opened up Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, a reality competition series inspired by Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the enduring magic of the 1971 film.
The setup is pure Wonka chaos: 12 Golden Ticket winners, each bringing a partner of their choosing, step through the factory gates and into a series of games, tests and temptations designed to challenge them physically, mentally and morally.
And because a golden ticket has never guaranteed a smooth ride, the contestants will have to adapt, strategize and survive whatever Wonka throws their way. Only one will ultimately claim the show’s life-changing prize.

Yes, Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka Voice Is Part of the Series
Netflix is leaning straight into the nostalgia. The series features a re-created version of Gene Wilder’s voice as Willy Wonka, made with the consent of the late actor’s estate.
Wilder’s wife, Karen B. Wilder, said the family was pleased that the series celebrates the warmth, imagination and humor he brought to the character while introducing that magic to a new generation.
There is another direct bridge to the 1971 movie too: Rusty Goffe, who appeared in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, returns to the factory as an Oompa Loompa.
The Chocolate Factory Is Basically a Wonka-Sized Social Experiment
Netflix describes the series as a high-stakes social experiment, and the factory itself is designed to be more than sugary scenery. Players face unpredictable challenges and temptations meant to test their instincts, resilience, teamwork and ability to keep their heads when everything around them gets weird.
Think less “tour the chocolate room” and more “what happens when the chocolate room starts judging your character.” Veruca Salt energy might get somebody far. It also might send them directly toward the nearest elimination.
Netflix’s Wonka Universe Keeps Getting Bigger
Wonka’s The Golden Ticket is the latest project to come from Netflix’s relationship with the Roald Dahl Story Company, which Netflix acquired in 2021.
The streamer has already released projects including Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and The Twits. An animated feature, Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory, is also planned for 2027.
Wonka’s The Golden Ticket premieres September 23 on Netflix, followed by a two-part finale on September 30.
