Bravo-bravissima! Two rap queens are receiving their just accolades: Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” has officially crossed the Recording Industry Association of America’s Diamond threshold.
The RIAA certified the collaboration Diamond on August 3, 2026, recognizing 10 million certified units in the United States. That milestone arrives almost exactly six years after the track was unleashed upon planet Earth in August 2020—and immediately became a record, a debate, a dance, a headline and a cultural stress test all at once.
This was never a quiet little single waiting politely to be discovered. “WAP” arrived at full volume. Now the paperwork has caught up.

“WAP” Entered the World Already Making History
Released on August 7, 2020, the Cardi-and-Megan union debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It became the first collaboration between women rappers to debut at the top of the chart, while handing Cardi her fourth U.S. No. 1 and Megan her second.
The song’s enormous opening was not powered by curiosity alone. Listeners kept returning after the internet discourse, reaction videos and pearl-clutching opinion cycle moved on to their next emergency. That sustained audience is how a headline-making debut eventually becomes a Diamond-certified catalog record.
The outrage was temporary. The streams were apparently on a six-year payment plan.
“WAP” would later appear on Cardi B’s 2025 album Am I the Drama?, but its identity was already firmly established: a standalone pop-culture detonation that belonged equally to Cardi’s theatrical command and Megan’s cool, precise swagger.

The Visual Was a Mansion Full of Powerful Women
The Colin Tilley-directed “WAP” video gave the song an equally oversized visual world: a surreal mansion, color-coded rooms, elaborate styling, choreography and cameos from Kylie Jenner, Normani, Rosalía, Latto, Sukihana and Rubi Rose.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion did not treat the video like a supporting accessory. It was part fashion fantasy, part comedy and part declaration that the record would control its own imagery before anybody else tried to define it.
Then They Took “WAP” Straight to the Grammys
Cardi and Megan delivered their first live performance of “WAP” together at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2021. Cardi first performed “Up,” then joined Megan for a televised production built around metallic costuming, oversized props and the same refusal to make the song smaller for anybody’s comfort.
By then, “WAP” had already proven it could dominate streaming, charts and conversation. The Grammy stage demonstrated that it could become full-scale live spectacle too.
