Tatyana Ali Just Turned a Cast Reveal Into a ’90s R&B Flashback

Tatyana Ali was asked whether any of her own R&B songs might somehow find their way into her upcoming Dancing with the Stars run.
She did not wait for the ballroom to answer.
During ABC’s Good Morning America rollout for Dancing with the Stars season 35, Ali stepped up and performed her 1998 hit “Daydreamin’” — thee exact kind of surprise that instantly turns a cast announcement into a proper ’90s nostalgia moment.
For anyone who mostly remembers Ali as Ashley Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, here is your reminder that she absolutely had a music career too. “Daydreamin’” became her signature solo hit, and hearing it pop back up on morning television nearly three decades later feels deliciously full-circle.
There is another layer to the whole thing: Ali is now entering the DWTS ballroom while her former Fresh Prince co-star Alfonso Ribeiro serves as co-host. ABC announced Ali as part of the season 35 cast on September 2, pairing her with pro dancer Jan Ravnik.

The new season premieres with a two-night kickoff on September 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
