From Barney singalongs to grown-up pop, Selena’s timeline keeps expanding
Today’s Back To The Future features youngin’ Pop Queen Selena Gomez — and seeing more than two decades of her career compressed into one timeline is a reminder that she has been doing this for a very, very long time.
The clock starts in 2002, when a 10-year-old Gomez joined Barney & Friends as Gianna. Long before the solo albums, dance-pop smashes and grown-up collaborations, there was children’s television, Disney and a performer slowly figuring out what her own musical lane would become.
By the late 2000s, acting and music were fully colliding. Gomez recorded songs for Disney projects before forming Selena Gomez & the Scene, whose run from 2009 through 2011 delivered three Top 10 albums and helped move her from TV star who sang into a proper pop act with her own fanbase.

Then came the solo reset. Stars Dance arrived in 2013, Revival in 2015 and Rare in 2020, each nudging Gomez further away from the Disney machinery and toward the softer, moodier and increasingly personal pop style that became unmistakably hers.
The timeline gets even more interesting once it stops behaving like a straight line. There was the Spanish-language Revelación era in 2021, the global reach of her appearance on Rema’s “Calm Down” remix in 2022, “Single Soon” in 2023 and “Love On” in 2024. By 2025, Gomez and Benny Blanco had turned their relationship into the joint album I Said I Love You First, followed by an expanded edition later that year.
And 2026 has not closed the book. Gomez’s current music profile continues through newer collaborations including “Te Olvido (La La)”, meaning that neat little “2002–2026” title already comes with an obvious asterisk: to be continued.
That is what makes these evolution edits fun when they are done right. The hairstyles and production trends change, the Disney polish gives way to adult pop, and suddenly songs that once felt completely unrelated start looking like chapters in the same story. “Love You Like a Love Song,” “Come & Get It,” “Good for You,” “Lose You to Love Me,” “Baila Conmigo” and everything around them did not come from one fixed version of Selena Gomez.
They came from an artist who kept changing the room around her — sometimes dramatically, sometimes almost quietly enough that you do not notice until somebody hits rewind.
