“I think it is important to discuss black men and the struggles and triumphs that we face, both good and bad,” Wilds told The Post. “Black men are often stigmatized with negative connotations, so I am extremely happy to be a part of this journey — not only as an actor but a black man as well.”
The series premieres with an episode entitled “Black Men Are Dangerous,” followed in consecutive weeks by “Black Men Are Absent Fathers,” “Black Men Devalue Women” and “Black Men Don’t Cry.”
“Profiled” is executive-produced by Tina Knowles-Lawson and Emmy-winning actor Billy Porter (“Pose”).
“I think each episode has super-duper shining moments to me as a young black man,” said Wilds, whose TV resume includes co-starring roles in “Swagger,” “Shots Fired” and “90210.” “But I think one episode in particular, ‘Black Men Devalue Women,” will spark the most conversation and bring people together. To actually see the numbers and statistics of married black men and women and seeing how we deal with our women … that really sits close to my heart.”
Wilds, 32, who was born in Staten Island, recently opened up about his own mental health issues and his journey finding a therapist to deal with his past depression issues — even though, as some people says, he seems to “have everything.”
“The stresses that come from being in a different tax bracket and having to constantly bring that money in, or being a young black man providing for your family and what that means,” he said. “There are so many different facets that come with being in this business … a lot of the time those things can weigh you down.
“It can be a lot for anyone to handle.”
Wilds and his wife, Christina Hammond — who have known each other since they were 15 — were married in December 2020 and have a young daughter, Tristyn. Christina appears in “Profiled” and notes that Wilds is a great father — and Wilds said he doesn’t think that being married will have any impact on his female fanbase.
“If you allow any kind of ‘backlash’ that says more about you as a man and your own morals and the things that you honor — how you stand in life and how you feel about your woman.”” – nypost.com/2022/02/11/why-tristan-mack-wilds-is-hosting-a-docuseries-on-discovery/?_ga=2.236650882.2009915997.1644895044-1403974793.1611655055
