Today’s “Vid-Visuals of the Day” takes us straight back to 1989, when Bobby Brown unleashed one of the most infectious soundtrack hits of the era — “On Our Own.”

The track served as the lead single from the Ghostbusters II soundtrack, arriving during Brown’s unstoppable Don’t Be Cruel era, when the singer was dominating radio, MTV and pop culture alike.

The song quickly became inseparable from the film’s legacy. Packed with playful shout-outs to characters from the movie — including Slimer, Vigo and the Ghostbusters crew themselves — the track carried the spirit of the franchise straight from the theater screen onto the dance floor.

And for many fans, the memory still hits instantly.

“On Our Own” blasts triumphantly during the film’s end credits, sending audiences out of the theater with Bobby Brown booming through the speakers.

If you saw Ghostbusters II in 1989, you probably remember it the same way — the credits rolling, the beat kicking in, and everyone walking out with the groove still ringing in their ears.

At the time, Bobby Brown was huge, sitting at the center of late-80s pop and R&B dominance with hits that defined the era.

For me, there’s also a full-circle memory attached to Bobby Brown. In the early 2000s, when my father owned a celebrity frequented restaurant, Brown would occasionally come in to dine. I was working as the hostess at the time and would be the one seating him at his table. Even then you could feel the superstar aura from the man who had dominated the late-80s and early-90s charts. Seeing him walk through the door always felt like a little brush with the era that gave us songs like “On Our Own.”

Looking back now, “On Our Own” remains one of the most joyful soundtrack singles of the decade, capturing a moment when blockbuster movies, MTV and pop music collided in perfect harmony.

So close thy nostalgic eyes…

And journey back to this 1980s soundtrack classic.
