Allow Us to RE-INTRODUCE You to Ashe’s Carefree Side

Our girl Ashe is serving a smokin’ jazzy-catchy, up-tempo song with “Another Man’s Jeans.” Back in December, we last featured the singer-songwriter and her previously released smash underground indie-pop single “Not Mad Anymore.” Now she’s back with another one of those irresistible little tunes that just refuses to sit still.
Released March 3 via Mom+Pop Music, “Another Man’s Jeans” marks Ashe’s first new material of 2022 following her debut album, Ashlyn. And what a way to kick off a new chapter: a spectacular joint with a stellar, unforgettable melody, wild guitar licks, handclaps and horns that seem determined to march straight onto your dance floor.

The theme is a conversation with a past romantic relationship — a sort of looking back on the passing of fun times and letting bygones be bygones. Except Ashe isn’t proposing an earnest reunion or another exhausting round of relationship negotiations. For one night, she would rather remember the good stuff and have a little fun. Refreshing, really.
Ashe said the following about the project: “About unashamed and uninhibited confidence, loosening up and having a good time. It sounds like what carefree feels like. It’s sexy! And loud! And fun! It’s a reminder to not take life too seriously…”

A Little Sunshine, a Lot of Sass, and One Very Expensive Reshoot
And the official music video? A sun-drenched, technicolor holiday of a production. Directed by Jason Lester and filmed at the W Punta de Mita in Mexico, it turns the song’s flirty attitude into a full-on dance number, with Ashe, her dancers and playful encounters with different versions of herself. Everything is bright, loose and just cheeky enough to suit the track.

There’s also quite the behind-the-scenes story. After a three-day shoot, Ashe returned home only to learn that the footage was unusable. Months of planning, a full production, all that work — gone. Rather than let the video disappear with the damaged film, she and the crew traveled back to Mexico and shot the whole thing again. Now that is commitment to getting a pop moment right.
The result is a fine match for this catchy up-tempo yumminess: a breezy visual built around movement, color and a song that knows the difference between revisiting an old flame and inviting all the old baggage back inside. It’s a reminder that not every tune about an ex has to end in tears.
Before the Jeans, There Was “Not Mad Anymore”
For anyone joining our Ashe appreciation club a little late, revisit “Not Mad Anymore” from her 2021 debut album Ashlyn. It’s the earlier video we were spinning before this new single came along, and it makes a lovely companion to the latest groove.
The earlier Jason Lester-directed clip is below. One more trip down memory lane before we return to Ashe’s newest creation.
From one chapter of letting go to another that puts the fun back in the conversation, you can hear Ashe changing the mood without losing her knack for a knockout hook.
