Mariah Carey’s forever holiday staple, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” is now officially a record-breaking 20th Week No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Thirty years after its debut, the later part of “sooner or later” proved true. Carey’s holiday anthem is rewriting the mark for the longest reign in the chart’s 67-year history.
According to Billboard, the song—originally released in 1994—surpasses the No. 1 runs of two modern juggernauts: Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” in 2024 and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” (feat. Billy Ray Cyrus) in 2019.
This isn’t Carey’s first crown. Back in 1995-96, her collab with Boyz II Men, “One Sweet Day,” dominated for 16 weeks, a record that stood solo for over two decades until tied by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” (feat. Justin Bieber) in 2017, and later passed by “Old Town Road.” Now, she’s reclaimed the longevity torch with a track released before “One Sweet Day.”
Adding to the milestone: “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has logged its 77th week on the Hot 100, tying Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” as the longest-charted title ever by a woman artist.
Mariah herself shared on IG: “Humbly taking back the torch!! 20 weeks at #1. I’m so grateful ❤️”
The track was co-written and produced with Walter Afanasieff, and has become a perennial streaming and radio powerhouse every December. Its official video, directed by Joseph Kahn, remains a holiday classic.
