Austra hails from the Canadian blue skies. A follow-up to their 2020 album, the title of their upcoming full body of work is “Chin Up Buttercup.”
Fronted by musician Katie Stelmanis, the artistic project she manifested is Austra. The first single is an instant, sleek, feel-good love affair: “Math Equation.”

The theme of this soon-to-be-released album centers on heartbreak and the societal pressure to fake your way through sadness. Katie Stelmanis shared the following:
“I was completely blindsided … the person I loved woke up one day, told me she wasn’t happy, and I basically never saw her again,” Stelmanis spills.
Co-produced by Kieran Adams, Miss Katie was influenced by the queen of pop herself—Madonna’s 1998 timeless juggernaut smasher “Ray Of Light.” The Eurodance genre pulses throughout “Math Equation.”
Music video visual aesthetics are directed by Trevor Blumas. Blumas’s work often leans into the avant-garde, with a flair for atmospheric tension and emotional symbolism. His background in acting and music gives him a unique edge—he doesn’t just direct; he interprets.
Why we love it: Because it’s unapologetically luminous. “Math Equation” doesn’t just flirt with Eurodance—it commits. It’s the kind of track that glides across heartbreak with a glossy finish, never masking the ache but refusing to drown in it. Austra’s sonic palette is crisp, kinetic, and emotionally intelligent—exactly the kind of pop we champion. And Katie’s vocal delivery? Controlled vulnerability with a side of synth shimmer. It’s a cathartic groove that doesn’t ask permission.
