Iggy Azalea is rap. She is a visionary matrix—despite the bandwagon of lazy, predictable haters who can’t handle seeing her be so creatively talented and unique. Especially because she’s a foreigner to Americans and of pale complexion.

But she never not gave credit, reverence, tributes. From the top of the Himalayas to the depths of her lyrics, Iggy has always referenced her inspirations and idols. Heck, she was signed by T.I., praised by Missy Elliott, and collaborated with Ariana Grande and Charli XCX before they were household names. She’s written a gazillion hit songs for other artists.

Don’t play with our musical history genius brain.

Unfortunately, with this gal, it just masked and mirrored racism and hate. She respects and adores the culture—and gets blackballed for being raised on such beautiful music she innately adores.

Sorry, but wasn’t that treatment and energy reserved for those who actually stole and colonized a genre and culture? That’s what appropriation really means. Miss Iggy is only a scapegoat for those who perpetuate the stereotype but are never held accountable or responsible for their deplorable robbery of someone’s art and work.

The mid-2010s female rap leader was hands down Iggy Azalea, holding the torch specifically during the 2014–2016 era. Sorry, Nicki.

Check the willingly and happily hermit that she is. Iggy Azalea reflects on her life in the public eye, and how she’s parlayed her success into a tech empire.

Drop your thoughts in the comments—was Iggy unfairly targeted, or are we finally ready to reframe her legacy? Let’s talk music, culture, and the truth behind the headlines.
