It’s been over four months since Selena Gomez, benny blanco, and The Marías debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s inaugural Hot Latin Pop Songs chart with their hypnotizing single, “Ojos Tristes.”

Now, the track claims the No. 1 spot on Latin Pop Airplay, driven by 8.3 million audience impressions in the U.S. during the week of August 8–14. And if you’re in Los Angeles, chances are you’ve heard it spinning regularly on Spanish radio station KLove 107.5 FM—a local favorite that’s kept the tune in heavy rotation.

For those who didn’t know: “Ojos Tristes” samples a 1970s classic by Spanish singer Jeanette, whose ethereal style helped define an era. Jeanette herself praised the track in a public statement, calling it “gorgeous.”

Maria Zardoya, frontwoman of The Marías, channels the original Spanish lyrics and adds a “different perspective” in the second verse, deepening the emotional resonance of the song.
