“Spanish designer Diego David Domínguez González, aka David Delfín, presented this season’s collection in New York. His second showing in the Big Apple in actuality, even though he’s marked ten years in the business. In a mood to celebrate, Delfín set himself an unusual challenge : no black.

The models would step onto the runway through a wall of fringe, clad only in turquoise, green, navy, and white -a palette inspired by the Polychromie of Le Corbusier. According to the program, the collection had a “Reality gets confused” theme. With the state of the economy and such, it is hard to know how designers are going to react. David Delfín put a simple, graphic and overall exciting collection together. A sigh of relief !

The looks are androgynous, the colors simple and bold, and the ensembles have interesting tailoring details. Androgyny is central to the Davidelfin aesthetics, as are one-sleeved looks. While the latter, as of today, seemed a bit last-season. Delfin might have veered rather radically between the tacky and the tasteful, but he has a strong point of view, and that’s worth its weight in Smurfs !” Via Morphosis
