The Pitt Leads, Bad Bunny Makes Emmy History
The 78th Emmy Awards nominations are officially here, which means television’s annual chaos board has been refreshed: frontrunners crowned, favorites snubbed, surprise names sneaking in, and at least one category making everybody’s group chat act brand new.
Liza Colón-Zayas from The Bear and Jeff Hiller from Somebody Somewhere announced this year’s nominees alongside Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego, dropping the shocks, the destiny fulfilled, and the “wait, they made it?” moments for the 2026 Emmy race.

At the top of the scripted-TV pile, The Pitt leads the way with 25 nominations, followed closely by Hacks with 24. Apple TV also had a very loud morning, with Widow’s Bay landing 19 nominations and Pluribus scoring 18.
So yes, the overall nomination crown belongs to The Pitt this year. But Bad Bunny still pulled off one of the morning’s biggest headline-grabbers: his Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show earned nine Emmy nominations, making it the most-nominated Super Bowl halftime show ever.
That halftime-show recognition includes Outstanding Variety Special (Live), where Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl spectacle steps into a stacked field against major awards broadcasts including the Golden Globes, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys. A music superstar crashing the Emmy conversation this hard? That is very much our kind of cross-category mess.
On the major-series side, the drama race includes The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, The Pitt, Pluribus, Slow Horses, and Your Friends and Neighbors. Comedy brings Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking, and Widow’s Bay into the ring.
The limited or anthology series category is also stacked, with All Her Fault, The Beast in Me, Beef, DTF St. Louis, and Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette all landing spots. Basically, the voters said prestige, trauma, mess, romance, and beef — literal and emotional — can all sit at the same table.
Reality also had its own shake-up: Dancing With the Stars returned to the reality competition race for the first time in years, while long-running giant The Amazing Race missed the category. That one is going to have awards-watchers side-eyeing the ballot until further notice.
