Call it what you may kiddas, either honest intent seeking unrecognized yet deserved renowned reverence. Or self-proclaimed martyr based solely on career irrelevancy and delusional in acceptance of what every generation of artists must go through, bygone eras.
Reinvention is truly the name of the game here kiddas. Now whether comedic icon/legend Monique has been telling a righteous tale of gender/race inequality for some years now going after the likes of Oprah, Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels, and studio companies alike, who knows!? But we still sit & wait for all of these allegations to be legitimized and apologized by the likes of such company.
Now her most recent trials and tribulations are with movie streaming conglomerate Netflix. Monique been talking about dealings where they pretty much low balled her in what they wanted to offer her in a comedy special compared to Amy Schumer's 13 million along with
Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock's 20 million compared to her 500,00 offering.
As specified by Monique herself, she's not white famous, she's not black man famous, she's black woman outcasted. Crossing over to white people specifically, in this case, a caller who happened to be a white guy rang into the studio as part Q&A and said he had no idea who Monique was and had to "Google her...."
Sadly although not an excuse kiddas, it is real talk. In general black women are paid very little in comparison to white men, black men, and white women.
Rooted in the right place but will, unfortunately, fall on death ears most likely. All we can do ladies and gents is keep your voice your truth your story lifted, can nobody take that away! Remember kiddas, it's not what you say, it's how you say it.
