Zephyring 33 years ago today, Mariah Carey unleashed her third studio album, “Music Box,” a blockbuster project that pushed her further into global superstardom and delivered some of the biggest songs of her career.
The album featured classics like “Dreamlover,” “Hero,” “Anytime You Need a Friend,” and her cover of “Without You.” Which we here at INYIM Media have been known to sing a solid cover of Mariah’s cover of Harry Nilsson 1971 jammer.
Working closely with producers like Babyface, Mariah blended R&B, Pop, Soul, and adult contemporary into a polished crossover sound.
Music Box became Mariah’s biggest-selling album to that point, while “Dreamlover” and “Hero” both reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The project helped establish her as one of the defining voices of ’90s R&B and Pop.
