Alice Black’s Hunt Is Not Ending With Hart Island
A rousing double whopper and double dutch is officially in order: Hulu has renewed Furious for Season 2.
The pickup arrived August 27, just four days before the freshman thriller wraps its first run with Episode 8, “Hart Island,” on Monday, August 31. So while Alice Black and Catherine Grace are still heading toward whatever fresh nightmare awaits in the finale, viewers can at least go in knowing Hulu is not closing the case afterward.

The Renewal Comes Before Season 1 Even Finishes
That timing is worth noting. Furious only premiered July 27 with three episodes, then rolled out weekly through August. Hulu’s renewal arrives before the finale has even streamed, giving the Elizabeth Meriwether-created drama an early vote of confidence while its first mystery is still technically unresolved.
According to TheWrap, the penultimate seventh episode was up 40% in one-day viewing compared with the premiere, while the series logged 372 million minutes viewed during its opening week and landed at No. 10 on Nielsen’s original-series streaming chart.
Emmy Rossum’s Alice Black Is Hunting Lola Petticrew’s Catherine
For anybody who has not locked in yet, Emmy Rossum stars as Alice Black, an FBI agent hunting a mysterious and calculating female serial killer named Catherine, played by Lola Petticrew.
The official logline gets right to the tension at the center of the show: the two women walk their own paths toward justice, but as their lives begin to intertwine, the line between right and wrong starts to blur.
That murkiness is exactly what gives Furious its bite. Alice is technically the one working inside the law, Catherine is the woman she is hunting, but the series keeps poking at the uncomfortable question of what justice even looks like when the systems meant to deliver it have already failed people.
The 1987 Black Widow Connection Is Real, But This Is Its Own Story
Furious is loosely inspired by the 1987 neo-noir thriller Black Widow, which starred Debra Winger as a Justice Department investigator pursuing Theresa Russell’s serial killer.
But creator and showrunner Elizabeth Meriwether has been clear that the Hulu series is not simply stretching that movie into eight hours. Instead, it uses the older film as a jumping-off point for a more contemporary story about violence, trauma, obsession and two women who begin recognizing pieces of themselves in the person on the other side of the hunt.
Rossum is also an executive producer on the series. The cast includes Scoot McNairy as homicide detective Danny Kelly, Quincy Tyler Bernstine as veteran FBI agent Nora Washington and Jake Lacy, with the show produced by 20th Television and Searchlight Television.
Hart Island Brings Alice And Catherine Back Together
The Season 1 finale is titled “Hart Island” and arrives August 31. Its official synopsis is wonderfully unhelpful in the best thriller way: Alice and Catherine converge.
That is all Hulu needs to tell us at this point. Rossum and Meriwether have already teased a major turn in the finale, and with Season 2 now officially secured, whatever happens on Hart Island clearly does not leave the story with nowhere to go.
No Season 2 premiere date, episode count or production start has been announced yet. But the important part is locked: Furious is coming back.
