Now dig out thee sneak peekers, because this one has a particularly interesting bridge back to Jessica’s reality-TV past.

Van Toffler, who was running MTV Networks during the era when Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica turned Simpson and then-husband Nick Lachey into household names, is producing the documentary. His company Gunpowder & Sky is producing the film, while Pearlman and Jonathan Silberberg are among the executive producers.

What Will Jessica Simpson’s Netflix Documentary Cover?

Netflix is framing the movie as a deep dive into Simpson’s life and career, and there is a lot of ground to cover.

She has sold more than 20 million records worldwide, built one of the most successful celebrity licensing businesses of its era, and turned her 2020 memoir Open Book into a bestseller by revisiting parts of her life that had often been flattened into tabloid punchlines.

The film is also arriving at a moment when Simpson has already started writing another chapter. After roughly 15 years away from releasing original music, she returned in 2025 with the two-part Nashville Canyon project and stepped back onto stages again.

That makes the timing feel much less like a retrospective and more like a camera catching somebody in the middle of a genuine reinvention.

Is There a Title or Exact Netflix Release Date Yet?

Not yet. Netflix has confirmed only that the documentary will arrive sometime in 2027. There is currently no official title and no exact premiere date.

Simpson herself confirmed the project on social media, writing that it was time to “open a new chapter” as the announcement went public.

And honestly, that is the part that makes this more interesting than another standard pop-star career recap. Jessica Simpson has already lived one of the strangest arcs of the 2000s celebrity machine: pop ingénue, reality-TV phenomenon, tabloid obsession, fashion mogul, bestselling memoirist and now recording artist again.

Two decades after Newlyweds, the cameras are back. The difference this time is that Jessica appears to be much more in control of where they point.
