The seminal face and eyes of E.T. in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial circa 1982 were indeed inspired by a gato.
Special effects designer Carlo Rambaldi based the alien’s facial features, particularly its emotional, wide eyes, on his own Himalayan cat, Kika, combining them with features from a pug and photographs of Albert Einstein, Carl Sandburg, and Ernest Hemingway.
