Rachel Dratch Brings Her Own Gaydar History to Anania’s Gaydar
Self-proclaimed “the gayest show you’ve ever seen,” TikTok’s Gaydar with Anania welcomes guest Rachel Dratch — and this one comes with a ridiculously perfect bit of comedy history attached.
Long before Gaydar became a digital interview show, Dratch had her own recurring Saturday Night Live character built around the exact same word: Nicole, “The Girl With No Gaydar.”
The sketch debuted on November 3, 2001, with Dratch playing a woman spectacularly unable to clock that nearly every man around her is gay. The bit returned more than once, including a 2002 episode where Nicole finds herself trying to meet men at a gay bar. Years later, Dratch explained that the character had roots in her own real-life dating misfires.

So yes, the woman who once built an entire recurring sketch around having absolutely no gaydar is now sitting down on a show literally called Gaydar. Sometimes the universe does understand casting.
The current show is hosted by Anania, the Brooklyn-based actor, singer, comedian and creator whose own site describes Gaydar as a hit digital series. Previous guests have ranged from New York comedians to names including Chappell Roan, Bob the Drag Queen, Reneé Rapp and Lucy Dacus.
Gaydar itself describes the format as “the gayest show you’ve ever seen” and currently rolls out new episodes Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The series is produced by Mutuals, the media company founded by Amelia Montooth that has built a growing slate of online queer entertainment around personality-first interviews and social video.
There’s another reason Dratch and Anania make especially good company right now: they are both part of Broadway’s current revival of The Rocky Horror Show at Studio 54.
Dratch stars as the Narrator in the Sam Pinkleton-directed revival, while Anania is part of the Broadway company. The production opened in April 2026, scored nine Tony nominations and has since extended through February 2027. That means this Gaydar appearance is not just host-meets-comedy-icon; it is also a little Broadway-family crossover happening between performances.
And Dratch’s own queer-comedy history goes well beyond that one SNL sketch. Her seven-season run on the show made her one of the era’s most reliable character players, from Debbie Downer to the Boston Teens, while “The Girl With No Gaydar” remains one of those beautifully specific early-2000s premises that somehow loops right back around into this exact 2026 moment.
