Aaron Sorkin Is Going Back Inside Facebook’s Most Explosive Chapter
Dig out thee trailer for The Social Reckoning, the new Aaron Sorkin drama starring Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White and Jeremy Strong in a story built around the whistleblowing that exposed some of Facebook’s most guarded internal secrets.
Rather than positioning the movie as a straight sequel to The Social Network, Sony Pictures is calling it a companion piece to the 2010 film. This time, Sorkin moves the story forward to the events surrounding The Wall Street Journal’s “Facebook Files” investigation.

Mikey Madison Steps Into the Story as Whistleblower Frances Haugen
At the center is Frances Haugen, played by Mikey Madison. Haugen worked at Facebook before becoming the whistleblower whose disclosures helped bring widespread attention to internal company research and decision-making.
In Sorkin’s dramatization, Haugen enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz, the Wall Street Journal reporter played by Jeremy Allen White, as the pair move toward the revelations that would fuel the newspaper’s landmark reporting.
Jeremy Strong Takes on Mark Zuckerberg
And yes, that is Jeremy Strong stepping into the role of Mark Zuckerberg.
The casting immediately gives the film a very different energy from David Fincher’s The Social Network, where Jesse Eisenberg played Zuckerberg during Facebook’s creation and rise. The Social Reckoning is focused on a later chapter — a company already enormous, already politically and culturally powerful, and increasingly under scrutiny over what was happening inside it.
The ensemble also includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr, giving Sorkin a stacked cast for what looks to be another dialogue-heavy plunge into technology, media, power and the people caught inside all three.
This Time, the Story Starts With The Facebook Files
Sony’s official synopsis says Sorkin’s screenplay is based on the events that gave rise to The Wall Street Journal’s “The Facebook Files” exposé.
That distinction matters. The Social Reckoning is not simply revisiting the dorm-room mythology of Facebook’s beginnings. It is examining what came after the company became one of the most influential platforms on the planet — and what happened when internal research began colliding with public accountability.
For Sorkin, who wrote the screenplay for The Social Network and won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, it is a return to familiar territory with an entirely different set of stakes.
