The cast of The Vampire Lestat joins Rotten Tomatoes to divulge the music, relationships and bold creative swings behind the latest chapter of AMC’s immortal drama.

Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, Delainey Hayles, Jennifer Ehle and Sheila Atim sit down with host Perri Nemiroff alongside creator and showrunner Rolin Jones.

The conversation travels from Lestat’s modern rockstar transformation and Louis’ complicated love life to Daniel Molloy’s new vampire existence, Claudia’s return, Akasha’s arrival and the music that began reshaping entire episodes before filming was complete.

Naturally, it all circles back to Lestat making an immortal amount of noise.

Sam Reid builds Lestat’s immortal rockstar.

Reid explains that his work began with composer Daniel Hart’s original songs, sometimes before he fully understood where the music would appear or what Lestat was trying to express.

Once Jones and writer-producer Hannah Moscovitch placed the tracks inside the story, Reid could begin shaping the performance around them.

The early version of Rockstar Lestat filters himself through the way Louis, Armand and Daniel have publicly portrayed him. Reid describes the result as a vampire pretending to be a human who is pretending to be a vampire—camp, theatrical and fully aware of the character he is selling.

As the season continues, that constructed villain begins falling away. The performance becomes more of a portrait of an artist discovering his real voice, with Lestat’s vulnerability slowly appearing as his musical style changes.

One particularly difficult song became what Reid calls “the most insane earworm,” built to circle inside the listener’s head again and again.

The cast has apparently taken it home, too. Jones reveals that Reid sent him a recording of his six-year-old singing one of the season’s songs while walking around the house.

The Vampire Lestat cast divulges the season’s biggest swings.

Sam Reid and the AMC ensemble unpack Lestat’s rockstar persona, Louis’ complicated relationships, Daniel Molloy’s transformation and the original music powering the newly retitled series.

The vampires enter their complicated era.

The title change also gets its moment. Jones explains that the show is following Anne Rice’s books, with this chapter carrying the name of the second novel, The Vampire Lestat.

Jacob Anderson describes Louis’ relationship status as “complicated.” Louis finds a comfortable distance with Lemieux, but the singular friction he shares with Lestat remains difficult to recreate anywhere else.

Meanwhile, Daniel Molloy is no longer the human journalist trying to make sense of vampire chaos. Eric Bogosian explains that Daniel was transformed against his will and now has to process his anger toward Armand while operating without familiar human rules or consequences.

The cast gives Daniel’s new condition an appropriately clinical diagnosis: transformational trauma.

Assad Zaman offers fewer details about Armand, but confirms that he remains somewhere nearby, watching everything unfold like the “serial lurker” he has always been.

Delainey Hayles carefully teases Claudia’s return without spoiling how it happens, while Jennifer Ehle discusses finding Gabriella through her many connections to Lestat.

Sheila Atim also speaks about stepping into the role of Akasha and the enormous legacy left by Aaliyah’s portrayal in the 2002 film Queen of the Damned. Rather than treating that love as pressure, Atim says she used it as goodwill while building her own version of the character.

The real secret weapon, however, may still be the music. Jones says Hart worked from a piano near the writers’ room, occasionally disappearing for days before a new song landed on his laptop.

At least three episodes were then restructured around what Hart created. Jones calls the songs “the secret heart of every episode.”

Reid closes by crediting Jones for placing his body, soul and life behind the series while convincing the network to support choices it initially resisted. That commitment, he says, gave the entire cast permission to be brave and go for the biggest possible swing.

Immortal rockstars, vampire lawyers, complicated exes and pop songs that refuse to leave your brain. Lestat has officially taken over the interview.
