As part of our Fresh Faced fashion series, the feature is model-led, but the clothes are not simply wardrobe around Roman — they are the point of the campaign. Alfín Varón built its Buenos Aires menswear identity around body-conscious silhouettes, sensual proportions and a willingness to blur traditional masculine and feminine codes.

For Spring/Summer 2021, that language feels especially clear. The campaign presents menswear as something closer to the body and less boxed in by old ideas of how a man is supposed to dress. By that year, Harper’s Bazaar was already grouping Alfín Varón with independent labels helping move more feminine menswear into the mainstream, particularly through fitted, skin-conscious silhouettes that made the waist, stomach and back part of the design conversation.

That makes Roman Stubrin more than just the model in the frame — he becomes the face through which the SS21 campaign communicates the brand. The clothes are cut and presented to register through the body, so posture, proportion and presence matter as much as the garments themselves. Roman gives the campaign exactly that directness.

Federico Fernández was also no stranger to Alfín Varón’s campaign language. He had photographed the label in earlier seasons, including Spring/Summer 2015 and Fall/Winter 2017, giving this SS21 campaign a visual continuity that goes beyond a one-off collaboration.

So while Roman is the Fresh Faced subject here, this is equally an Alfín Varón campaign story: a Spring/Summer 2021 statement about how the label wanted menswear to look, sit and move on the body — carried by Roman and photographed by someone already familiar with the brand’s visual world.
