“Useful Bodies” Turns Strength, Shape and Movement Into Fashion

Gander at thee gruesomely darling Murphy and Matt, serving shape, tension and a whole lot of body language in the fashion editorial Useful Bodies.
Photographed by Zhu Leisan and styled by Wen, the exclusive series treats the human form as its own piece of visual design. The poses shift between sculptural, playful and slightly strange, with Murphy and Matt turning every bend, stare and tangled limb into part of the wardrobe story.

The supporting beauty work keeps the frames polished without sanding away their oddness. Aze handled makeup, while Gauch Gao Qi created the hair. Photo assistants Li Xufeng and Yinuo helped bring Zhu Leisan’s clean, body-conscious compositions together.
Rather than relying on a grand location or an overloaded concept, Useful Bodies lets proximity do the work. Murphy and Matt fold into the frame—and occasionally into each other—making the editorial feel intimate, graphic and just off-kilter enough to keep the eye moving.
