Kathy Takes New York, Then Brings The Stories Home

Kathy Griffin had so much New York chaos to unpack that one episode simply was not going to hold it. On part two of her Talk Your Head Off with Kathy Griffin New York rundown, Kathy chats NY, pal Rosie O’Donnell, Maya Rudolph, Jennifer Coolidge, Broadway stories, theater-night sightings, and the kind of D-list-meets-big-city swirl only Kathy can make sound both glamorous and mildly unhinged.

The episode, officially titled “Kathy Takes New York: Part 2 Rosie O’Donnell, Maya Rudolph, and More!”, picks up after Kathy’s Broadway run in Celebrity Autobiography, where the backstage tales apparently had enough side quests for their own limited series. There are stories about her closing performance, the ever-changing Broadway cast, and the very Kathy business of turning a backstage almost-kiss into a whole anecdote with hair, makeup, press pickup, and one very alert glam team.

One of the sweeter New York moments comes from Kathy going to see Oh, Mary! on Broadway, where she says Maya Rudolph “blew the lid off the place.” She also runs into Jennifer Coolidge, a longtime comedy-world friend from their Groundlings days, turning the night into one of those only-in-New-York comedy auntie crossovers.

Then there is the Rosie O’Donnell of it all. Kathy talks about flying back to Los Angeles with Rosie and her child Clay, catching up after Rosie’s move to Ireland, and missing the days when Rosie lived close enough in Malibu to be the friend who would call, feed her, and put on Jeopardy! when the world got heavy.

The Rosie section also gets into Common Knowledge, Rosie’s one-person show about parenting, identity, family, and comedy with the kind of honesty that Kathy clearly respects. Kathy also recalls going to see Rosie perform in Ojai, where the show was arranged in part so the real Linda Richman, inspiration for the classic Coffee Talk character, could attend. Casual comedy-history nesting doll, naturally.

As always, Kathy’s storytelling comes stacked: Broadway, Sardi’s, comedy friends, old Hollywood-adjacent run-ins, the plane ride with Rosie, and a few civic-minded detours that remind you she is never simply doing a “what I did last week” recap.
