Jessica Chastain’s New Doppelgänger Wants More Than A Family Visit
“Can I go inside your heart?” Absolutely not, strange closet mother. The door is closed, the lights are on and Jessica Chastain’s latest horror nightmare has officially entered the house.
Universal Pictures has unveiled the terrifying debut trailer for Other Mommy, a supernatural family horror film starring Chastain in a dual role as devoted mother Ursula and the sinister entity wearing her face.
The movie arrives exclusively in theaters on October 9, 2026, just in time to make every dark hallway, open closet and suspiciously quiet kitchen feel like a personal attack.

From producer James Wan and director Rob Savage, Other Mommy follows eight-year-old Bela, played by Arabella Olivia Clark, as she forms a disturbing relationship with an entity living inside her home.
The presence resembles Bela’s real mother, but its interest in the child reaches far beyond a creepy impersonation. It wants permission to enter Bela’s heart—and like every supernatural visitor with boundary problems, it does not appear especially interested in accepting no for an answer.
The trailer initially introduces the double with unsettling domestic calm. A woman who looks exactly like Ursula prepares food and speaks to Bela with familiar softness, until the child realizes this is not her mother at all. Then the limbs start bending, the hiding places become impossible and the family home stops feeling like a safe location.
Jay Duplass plays Bela’s father, who quickly learns that seeing the entity is not remotely better than hearing about it. The supporting cast includes Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen.
Chastain’s dual performance gives the central threat an extra layer of betrayal. Bela is not only being hunted by a monster; she is being approached by something using the face, voice and emotional authority of the person she should trust most.
The film is based on Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House, adapted for the screen by Nathan Elston. Savage, the filmmaker behind Host and The Boogeyman, brings the story’s child-level perspective and disrupted horror rhythms into a feature built around uncertainty: Is that Mommy, or is that the thing pretending?
The first trailer began generating intense audience chatter after appearing in theaters before screenings of The Odyssey, where moviegoers were not necessarily prepared for a body-twisting Jessica Chastain to emerge from beneath the furniture. Once Universal released the trailer online, the scares escaped into the wider world.
Chastain previously faced supernatural danger in Mama and returned to the genre for It Chapter Two. Here, she gets to play both sides of the nightmare—the mother trying to protect her child and the imitation determined to be invited closer.
“Your mommy won’t save you,” the trailer warns. Rude, deeply unsettling and unfortunately effective. October just found its new reason to keep every closet door locked.
