The Hiatus Hair Fans Refused To Let Maddie Leave Behind
Jennifer Love Hewitt asked, the fans answered and now Maddie is officially entering her blonde chapter when 9-1-1 returns for Season 10.
The transformation did not begin as a television makeover. Hewitt first traded the red hair she had been wearing for a rich honey blonde during the show’s spring hiatus, working once again with longtime colorist Nikki Lee. At the time, it looked like one of the actress’ familiar between-season experiments — a chance to switch things up before production called her back to Maddie’s world.
Fans, however, apparently had other plans. As Hewitt prepared to return to work, she shared a video with Lee announcing that viewers had asked her to keep the blonde for Season 10. Lee needed little convincing, and Hewitt confirmed the decision with a simple, “We’re keeping the blonde.”
She later showed off the finished look in a Reel captioned, “Season 10 hair ready! Let’s go!” The final style keeps the warm golden color, long layers and loose waves that made the original hiatus reveal such a hit.

For Maddie, the color marks one of her most noticeable visual changes since Hewitt joined the series in Season 2. The dispatcher has moved through different lengths, darker shades and sharper cuts as her life has changed, but the blonde is a clear departure from the look most viewers associate with the character.
Whether the series acknowledges Maddie’s transformation in the story or simply lets her walk back into dispatch with a major refresh remains to be seen. After everything the character has survived, allowing her to have a little blonde fun without another emergency attached would practically qualify as mercy.
The makeover arrives as Maddie enters another professional turning point. Season 9 ended with her stepping into a larger role at dispatch after Sue’s health crisis, giving Season 10 room to explore how she handles the added responsibility while the rest of the 118 moves into its next chapter.
9-1-1 returns for its milestone 10th season this fall on ABC, remaining in its Thursday 8/7c time slot. The network has not yet announced the exact premiere date.
