Howlin’ turns fall knitwear into one very cozy fever dream

Dig out Belgian Howlin’ Fall/Winter 2026 collection. Entitled “The Essence of Dreams,” the season takes the brand’s already cozy knitwear universe and lets it wander somewhere much stranger, brighter and more childlike.
Howlin’ has never been interested in sweaters behaving too seriously, and this time the imagination runs across 100% wool knits made on Scottish and Irish looms. Horses, grapes, little houses and even an oversized snail turn up across the collection, sitting beside Fair Isle patterns, fuzzy cardigans, corduroy and checks.

The title fits because none of this feels overly planned in the boring sense. “The Essence of Dreams” works more like the visual logic of remembering a favorite sweater from childhood: the colors are louder, the motifs get a little odd, and somehow the thing that should look silly ends up being exactly what you want to keep wearing.
Turquoise, yellow, green and red keep flashing through the layers while the more familiar fall textures — wool, corduroy, checks — hold everything together. It is whimsy with enough structure underneath it that you do not end up dressed like the lost member of a children’s television cast.

And that is where Howlin’ gets it right. The pieces are playful without becoming novelty knits you wear once for a joke. A horse under a moon, grapes scattered over a sweater or a little house worked into a vest still has to function as clothing after the charm wears off. Here, the wool, shape and layering keep the fantasy grounded.
Texture does as much work as color. Fuzzy cardigans soften the sharper checks, patterned scarves pile onto sweaters, and corduroy bags and trousers keep the whole thing tactile. The collection looks warm before you even start thinking about temperature.
Howlin’ describes itself as an Antwerp-based knitwear brand founded in 1981, and that long relationship with knitwear shows up in the confidence here. The dreaminess is not covering weak construction; it is sitting on top of decades of knowing what a good sweater is supposed to do.
The full collection is basically permission to stop treating cold-weather dressing like punishment. Dig through the whole dreamy lot below — horses, Fair Isle, fuzzy layers and all.
