One Phone Call Turns London Into A Hostage Course

One hour. One chance to save her son. Prime Video has unleashed thee official trailer for The Runner, a London-set psychological thriller starring Gal Gadot and Damian Lewis.
Gadot plays Maia Marten, a sharp, high-powered lawyer and single mother whose routine morning run collapses into a citywide nightmare. A mysterious caller informs her that her son, Dylan, has been abducted and lays out three brutal rules: keep moving, follow every command and tell no one.
Stop, and her son dies. Refuse the instructions, and he dies. The first trailer makes it clear that the commands are not merely designed to exhaust Maia—they are pushing her toward killing a key witness connected to one of her own legal cases.

Damian Lewis supplies the voice—and apparent face—behind the merciless game, remaining one step ahead as Maia races through London’s streets, underground tunnels and increasingly dangerous obstacles. The trailer throws her from stolen phones and subway confrontations to an ambulance escape and a plunge from a bridge.
There is an intentionally stripped-down hook beneath all the movement: how far can one mother be pushed before survival begins costing other people their lives? Gadot’s Maia is clearly not planning to follow every instruction quietly, but each attempt to fight back appears to tighten the trap around her son.
The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald, the filmmaker behind The Last King of Scotland and State of Play, from a screenplay by Mark Gibson. Rory Wilmot plays Maia’s son Dylan, while Alfred Enoch also appears in the cast.
At a lean reported runtime of roughly 84 minutes, The Runner looks engineered to operate with very little breathing room. London becomes less a backdrop than a moving obstacle course, and Maia’s morning run becomes a test of endurance, judgment and just how much damage one anonymous voice can orchestrate from a phone.
The Runner premieres September 2, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video.
