New Film Trailer: Grief Gets Messy, Tender and Unexpected in Mouse
Sophie Okonedo and Katherine Mallen Kupferer lead Mouse, the new coming-of-age drama arriving in select theaters November 6. Set in small-town Arkansas, the film follows an introverted high-schooler whose world shifts after the death of her best friend, sending her into an unexpected bond with the girl’s mother as both try to move through grief without a clean little roadmap.
Kelly O’Sullivan wrote the screenplay and co-directs with Alex Thompson, the filmmaking duo behind Ghostlight. The cast also includes Chloe Coleman, Tara Mallen, Iman Vellani and David Hyde Pierce.

Mouse Goes Straight for the Complicated Feelings
The new film pairs grief, friendship and growing up with the kind of intimate character work that makes a coming-of-age story hit harder.

The story centers on Minnie, played by Kupferer, as she struggles to define herself after losing the friend who had long shaped her social world. Her connection with Helen, played by Okonedo, grows out of shared loss but becomes its own complicated relationship — tender one minute, emotionally knotted the next.
That emotional push-and-pull is thee hook here. Mouse is not selling grief as one giant prestige-drama breakdown; the official synopsis leans into the fragile, funny and awkward stages that come with figuring out who you are after life has already rearranged the room.
