Laundry Day Has Never Looked This Precisely Undressed

CDLP takes a shade long associated with classic men’s underwear and gives it thee premium-material treatment with Grey Melange Essentials, starring British dancer, actor and performer Sam Salter.

The collection brings the familiar marled gray finish to CDLP’s underwear, ribbed tank tops, T-shirts and socks. It sounds simple until fabric science enters the laundry room: achieving that mottled look in premium TENCEL™ Lyocell has historically been difficult because of technical limitations in the dyeing process.

After years of material development, the Swedish label has translated grey melange into its sleek essentials language without sanding away the color’s everyday appeal. The result feels nostalgic, modern and very aware that basics can still command a full campaign moment.

Photographed and directed by CDLP co-founder and creative director Christian Larson, the campaign places Salter inside a South London laundromat. Stainless-steel machines, hard fluorescent light and the ordinary ritual of wash day become a clean industrial frame for boxer briefs and a ribbed tank rendered in soft gray.

The setting does more than provide a cheeky reason for Salter to pare the wardrobe down. Laundry rooms are where essentials prove whether they deserve their name, and CDLP uses that familiar space to underline the collection’s material story rather than bury it beneath excessive styling.

Salter brings a performer’s sense of line and movement to the images. Trained at Sylvia Young Theatre School and Laine Theatre Arts, he has moved across the West End, screen work and Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, so even the smallest shift of posture reads with intention.

Grey melange may be one of underwear’s safest colors, but this edit refuses to treat it as visual background. Against the chrome, tile and spinning machines, the subtle marled texture becomes the whole point—proof that a classic can feel fresh when the fabric, fit and casting are handled correctly.

The campaign understands thee assignment: keep the clothes minimal, let Salter animate the frame and make laundry day look far more cinematic than any missing sock has earned. Grey Melange Essentials is available globally through CDLP.
