CAMPILLO Drops Us Straight Into “In Medias Res”

Dig out CAMPILLO unleashing its Spring/Summer 2027 runway show entitled, “In Medias Res.”
Designer Patricio Campillo takes the Latin phrase literally: a story that begins already in motion. For SS27, that idea becomes less about narrative gimmick and more about memory — the pieces caught somewhere between being made, being worn and becoming the version of themselves that lasts in your head.

The collection continues CAMPILLO’s ongoing conversation between Mexican identity, charro culture, craftsmanship and contemporary menswear, but this season it loosens the grip. Fittings became part of the design language itself: garments were cut, pinned, draped, twisted and layered in ways that preserved the feeling of something still evolving instead of cleaning every gesture into perfect runway order.

The mood also shifts brighter than last season. Presented on September 13 at Manhattan’s Downtown East River heliport, the runway moved through a saturated sunset palette of reds, oranges, yellows and pinks, with relaxed silhouettes, satin shirting, short shorts, distressed denim and graphic tees all catching that golden-hour energy.

And then there is the craft — still one of CAMPILLO’s sharpest signatures. Horsehair inspired by charro culture returns in vividly dyed fringe across trousers, jackets, belts and accessories, while silver and onyx move into jewelry developed with Mexican artisans. The result feels grounded in tradition without ever getting trapped inside it.
What makes “In Medias Res” work is that nothing feels too resolved. A shirt slips, a layer peeks out, fabric folds where it “shouldn’t,” and instead of correcting the accident, CAMPILLO keeps it. That tension — between preservation and change, memory and motion — gives the collection its pulse.
