London Heritage Gets Rumpled, Youthful and a Little Less Perfect

Legacy fashion brand Burberry unveils its Summer 2027 runway collection by Creative Director Daniel Lee — only this time, the house loosens its collar. Less pristine polish, more movement, personality and a little glorious rumple.

Shown at Chelsea College of Arts during London Fashion Week, the collection pulls Burberry’s most familiar codes apart just enough to make them breathe again. The setting was stripped back, the soundtrack moved through decades of David Bowie, and Lee’s own brief for the season was a return to something more instinctive, felt and true.

Daniel Lee Loosens Burberry’s Grip Without Losing the House

The shift comes through strongest in the menswear. Lightweight jackets, shorter proportions, denim and relaxed cuts bring a younger rhythm to the runway without trying too hard to announce a reinvention. Central Cee even made his runway debut in a hooded jacket and baggy denim — a styling move that felt closer to how clothes actually live outside the showroom.

Lee put it plainly backstage: he likes things that do not feel too perfect. That attitude runs through washed surfaces, softened tailoring and pieces that look meant to be worn rather than preserved under glass. It is still unmistakably Burberry, just with the starch taken down a notch.

Celia Birtwell Sends Flowers Straight Through the Burberry Check

The most charming disruption comes from British textile designer Celia Birtwell, whose prints cut through the collection with faces, florals and vivid colour. Her influence lets the familiar Burberry check wander into gingham, stripes and floral trellises instead of sitting obediently in its usual box.

That playfulness carries into the accessories and outerwear too: broad suede belts, oversized sunglasses, substantial bags, equestrian references and trenches that pick up PVC-like finishes or trompe-l’œil details. Even when the house codes are obvious, they are rarely left untouched.

And that is the fun of this one. Lee is not pretending Burberry needs a brand-new identity. He is taking the pieces everybody already knows — the trench, the check, the Britishness of it all — and roughing up the edges until they feel alive again.

The runway keeps that conversation going look after look, from softened classics to bolder colour and print. Have a scroll through more of Burberry Summer 2027 below.
