Rob Lowe Returns to TigerBelly With Decades of Hollywood Chaos

Breaking Comedy, Just In: Rob Lowe returns for laughs on Bobby Lee’s TigerBelly, and episode 573 wastes very little time turning decades of Hollywood history into one long, wonderfully loose conversation.
The episode, titled “Rob Lowe and The Laconic Shirtless Bobby,” brings Lowe back into the TigerBelly chaos with Bobby Lee and Khalyla Kuhn for roughly 70 minutes of career stories, humiliations, near-misses and the kind of old-Hollywood memories that become funnier once enough years have passed.

They spill on red-carpet humiliations with William H. Macy, Lowe losing Footloose to Kevin Bacon, reading for Titanic, and the kind of improvised shirtless moment that naturally sends Bobby Lee down another road entirely.
Then there is the 1989 Academy Awards. Lowe revisits the now-notorious Snow White opening number, an elaborate musical spectacle that has followed him for decades. On TigerBelly, he can laugh at the memory now — mostly — while also pointing out that the number still gets resurrected by the internet every Oscar season as shorthand for awards-show disaster.
The story gets considerably sweeter when Lowe remembers what happened afterward. Sitting in a nearly empty green room, he says a woman complimented his singing. That woman was Lucille Ball. Lowe recalls sitting with Lucy and watching the rest of the Oscars together, which is about as perfect an ending as one could ask for after surviving one of the most infamous opening numbers in Academy Awards history.
And because TigerBelly refuses to let a guest leave with dignity completely intact, Bobby and company replay the Oscar footage, study the reactions in the room and force Lowe to relive the whole thing in real time. Lowe eventually lands on the only reasonable conclusion: if Lucille Ball liked it, perhaps everybody else can calm down.
The conversation also gets into Lowe’s new film The Musical, while moving freely between career detours, movies that almost happened and the weird longevity of stories Hollywood simply refuses to let die.
That looseness is what makes Lowe such a natural fit for the show. He has enough history to pull from, enough distance to laugh at it, and Bobby Lee is always more than willing to poke directly at whatever part of the story still makes a guest squirm.
