Back To The Future: Chris Pine, Hollywood nights and a shared love of style
We have quietly yet loudly been in the underground fashion zeitgeist world, serving as muse and inspiration to countless beautiful artists. Including mediocre average people alike. But it’s the stars and not wallflowers that matter.
And then there was the day we met actor extraordinaire Chris Pine.
He became not only a staple at our place of work, Kitchen24 in Hollywood, but for a few years he would come back and forth in between jobs and projects. Shooting this and that. Sometimes alone. Sometimes with a companion. Other times even bringing in his family.
Somewhere in all those visits, a friendship formed. And as Chris would put it over and over again, he had to stop in and see his favorite fashion person so he could get IDEAS. Sure, we’ve been outsourced before.

The Thing About Being Copied Is Whether They Do It Right
Through the decades and centuries, some pay homage with credit attached. Others colonize. But ultimately, at the end of every sunset, it’s the ones that DO IT RIGHT that make our style hearts a-flutter.
Secretly, we’ll let you in on a personal emotion. They say imitating is the greatest form of flattery. Based on what we’ve lived and experienced, the pendulum seriously swings both ways.
What bothers us most is not the copycatting and blatant stealing of one’s own organic personality. It’s when they do it lousy and tacky that it really doesn’t sit well with us.
So for all the talented, cultured, open-minded lovers and connectors of the style world: we speak your name, Chris Pine!
For the spine and backbone to say the lovely words you would compliment us with. To acknowledge it. To honor it. We still remember the sentiment: “It’s a gift to watch you have a sense of self. You are a natural at this, and your intuition for clothes is incredible.”
He saw it wasn’t a gimmick. It was instinctive. He actually adored seeing how our unique approach shined through.
Years Later, Chris Pine’s Style Became Part of the Conversation
What’s endearing and sweetly validating is a random, spontaneous Twitter — now X — post we came across from Maria (Maru), @MariaESegura7. She tagged Chris in a post and wrote: “Chris would make an excellent culinary tour guide and if he wears those clothes, I can assure you Los Angeles tourism would increase. I would be the first to hire his services.”
In the same vein, these were the same kinds of words Chris would relay to us. He would say people must get excited to see you in all your fashion and bright light.
We can’t say he was lying.
We may or may not have a photo of Chris and us floating around somewhere. Perhaps on one of our manager’s gallery phone pics from the time. Somewhere. Maybe. C’est la vie.
Oh, and to cap this hot-topic personal anecdote, we attached a Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview Chris did in May 2024.
Jimmy asks him about his “wild” style and what inspires him. Chris talks about dressing for comfort, having fun with clothes and the particular freedom of Los Angeles style. What he answered can’t help but make us like to think he was thinking of us.
Perhaps not specifically. But we are forevermore a moodboard locked somewhere in his brain and heart!
Plus, to make it a full-circle moment, Jimmy was also a regular customer of ours at one point. Just not at the same restaurant. We had reinvented ourselves again for the umpteenth time, meeting Jimmy in our new era at a Japanese restaurant called, at the time, Shin Ya.
Also, we like to note — and not forget — Mister Chris Pine is considered one of Hollywood’s most dashing and fashionable men of his generation.
