Patti LaBelle is an American singer whose extraordinary voice has carried her from 1960s girl-group music through funk, soul, R&B and a hugely successful solo career. Born in Philadelphia, she led Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles and then the boundary-pushing trio Labelle, whose “Lady Marmalade” became a defining 1970s hit. Her solo catalog includes “If Only You Knew,” “New Attitude,” “On My Own,” “If You Asked Me To” and “Somebody Loves You Baby.” Decades of recording and performance have earned her the enduring title Godmother of Soul.
