A Blind Date, a Dead Body and $40,000 Later…
There are bad first dates, and then there is All Night Wrong — the new dark comedy that takes awkward chemistry, a stolen car, $40,000 in cash and a dead body in the trunk and somehow keeps making the night worse from there.
The film stars Zach Cherry as Gary and Maria Bakalova as Ell, two strangers who meet for what is supposed to be a straightforward online date. Instead, they wind up tangled in a crime they absolutely did not plan for and make the deeply questionable decision to handle the mess themselves.
Which, as movie decisions go, is already where you know everything is about to go beautifully wrong.

This Date Goes Off the Rails Almost Immediately
The setup is deliciously simple. Gary and Ell meet on a blind date, then accidentally steal a killer’s car containing a dead body and forty grand. Already too compromised to comfortably call the police, the pair decide to cover their tracks instead.
Because obviously when your first date has reached “what do we do with the body?” territory, good judgment has left the building.
From there, the movie expands into a crime-comedy mystery involving blackmail, betrayal, a cryptic clue hidden on a camera memory card and one last message connected to the dead man. The official synopsis promises an escalating run of bad choices, cops, fights, lies, crimes and hard truths before the night is over.
Zach Cherry and Maria Bakalova Get the Worst First Date Imaginable
Cherry and Bakalova are a pretty irresistible pairing for this kind of material. Cherry brings the tightly wound comic energy viewers know from Severance, while Bakalova has already proven she can commit completely to absurdity without losing the human beat underneath it.
The supporting cast adds even more combustible personalities, including Tyler Labine, Emily Hampshire and Ryan Beil.
Jason James directs and produces the film from a screenplay by Jason Filiatrault. The two previously worked together on the 2017 romantic comedy Entanglement.
All Night Wrong first screened at SXSW London before arriving in select U.S. theaters and on digital/VOD on August 14, 2026. The film runs about 91 minutes, which feels exactly right for a story where one already-awkward date keeps finding brand-new ways to become a felony.
The Movie Knows the Real Hook Is the Pairing
The stolen money and corpse are the engine, but the appeal is really watching two damaged people figure each other out while every possible external circumstance says they should probably stop talking and find separate attorneys.
That mix gives All Night Wrong its oddball lane: part date movie, part crime thriller, part black comedy and part “how much worse can this possibly get?” machine.
Apparently the answer is: much worse.
