Some voices deserve a second introduction. For this Allow Us to Introduce You To spotlight, we’re reintroducing a familiar INYIM favorite: Annie Hamilton, who first caught our ear with “Dynamite” back in 2023, when we featured her in Come Thru Vocals. Her music has remained in rotation on INYIM Radio. Now the Australian singer-songwriter is back in our orbit with “chainmail,” a beguiling descent into the darker reaches of desire.

Released on October 21, 2026, “chainmail” opens the next chapter of Hamilton’s independent career as the first single from her third album, planned for April 2027. The song began during a solo writing trip in Paris before Hamilton took it to Melbourne to co-produce with Alice Ivy. Its subject is the gravitational pull of toxic love: the temptation to abandon good judgment for a romance that feels impossible to resist.

Annie Hamilton takes us into her sunshine-gothic world

Hamilton has a way of making the unsettling sound downright seductive. A pulsating synth line cuts through crystalline guitars, while her voice moves between intimacy and defiance. In her own description to INYIM, she likened the atmosphere to “lava” and “a subterranean goblin rave.” Quite the destination, and one we’re happy to visit. It’s a far more shadowy landscape than the first track that brought her to us, but that unmistakable voice is still the attraction.

The accompanying visual world is equally personal. Hamilton and longtime collaborator Rob Agostino created the “chainmail” video using a handmade cave constructed in her garage, with bats and a shadow-self character extending the song’s haunted atmosphere. The artist also fashioned a custom outfit from chains, a lock of her own hair and a reworked dress from her earlier “talk” music video. It’s a reminder that Hamilton’s visual storytelling runs as deep as her songwriting.

Her musical evolution stretches beyond one single. Following her 2022 debut album the future is here but it feels kinda like the past and 2024’s stop and smell the lightning, “chainmail” points toward a third record built with a fresh electronic edge. Hamilton has also performed and toured with acts including The National, Julia Jacklin, Mallrat and Luke Hemmings, while lending her talents to Ashnikko’s band for triple j’s Like A Version.
