Present Day-Developments: This Aspen Bear Came for the Carbs
Present Day-Developments: A cinnamon-colored black bear strolled into Aspen, Colorado’s Saturday Market for a little nip and nibble on September 26, 2026.
The majestic beaut made its way through the market before discovering the Louis Swiss Pastry booth, where fresh bread and baked goods apparently proved impossible to resist.

Witness Jodi Owens told Storyful the bear tried a few booths before settling on the bakery table and chowing down. Aspen police arrived within minutes, cleared people back and hazed the animal away from the food. Owens said the bear was unharmed.
Another witness, Staci Egloff, captured the bear munching on bread before it later climbed a nearby tree and fell asleep. Honestly, after an Aspen farmers market breakfast, relatable.

The timing also makes sense for a very hungry bear. Colorado Parks and Wildlife notes that black bears enter hyperphagia in the fall, spending much of the day eating as they build the calories needed for winter. CPW also warns that human food can quickly teach bears to return to populated areas, so spectators should always keep their distance and never feed or approach one.
And yes, despite the cinnamon coat, this is still a black bear. Colorado black bears can range in color from blond and honey to brown, cinnamon and black.
