Josh Hartnett Traded America for Hampshire Country Life — Rude, But We Get It
Josh Hartnett has left us all alone in the U.S. The forever-handsome Virgin Suicides, Pearl Harbor and Oppenheimer star now calls the Hampshire countryside in southern England home, where he lives with his British wife, actress Tamsin Egerton, their four children and a small collection of farm animals.
And yes — still as handsome as ever. Some things remain stable in this unpredictable world.
During a new appearance on ITV’s This Morning, Hartnett sat down with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley while promoting Verity, but the conversation quickly moved beyond the film as he opened up about the quiet life he has built away from Hollywood and why family now dictates almost everything about the work he chooses.
And please — Ben and Cat were looking at him like two schoolgirls with a crush. We get it. Josh is still very much Josh.

So Where Exactly Did Josh Hartnett Move?
Hartnett is based in a village in the Hampshire countryside, in southern England. He and Egerton spent years moving between the U.K. and the United States before settling there more permanently during the pandemic, when their family was growing.
It is country life in the literal sense. Hartnett says the family has a “tiny little farm” with plenty of animals, while previous interviews have detailed dogs, guinea pigs, chickens and pygmy goats among the household population.
The location also gives him what Los Angeles never really did: distance from the entertainment industry. Hartnett has said he never fully vibed with L.A. and prefers being around people whose entire lives do not revolve around movies, press and Hollywood chatter.
His Four Kids Are Basically British Now
In the interview, Hartnett laughs about the culture shift at home, especially when it comes to language. His children have British accents, and he says they routinely correct him when he uses the American word for something.
“I’m a foreigner in my own home,” he jokes.
Egerton, who is English, has helped ease him into country life, and Hartnett clearly sounds settled. He knows his British television now too, mentioning appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox and The 1% Club — although apparently watching television as himself can be more nerve-racking than playing someone else.
Family Comes Before Hollywood These Days
The biggest factor when Hartnett considers a new project now is simple: how long will it take him away from home? At 48, he says he is far less concerned with how he is perceived by the press than he was when blockbuster fame first arrived in his twenties.
His life, as he puts it, is his family life. Acting still matters, but it now has to fit around the people waiting for him back in Hampshire rather than the other way around.
It is a pretty dramatic shift for someone who once stood at the center of Hollywood’s early-2000s heartthrob machine. Hartnett even recalls nearly turning down Pearl Harbor because he knew a movie that large could change his life — and he liked the life he already had.
Turns out he eventually found a version he liked even more: a wife, four kids, animals, English country roads and just enough Hollywood to keep us from being completely deprived.
