In case you might’ve missed it! Revisit hottie actor Josh Segarra’s chit chat on the video podcast Thanks Dad with Ego Nwodim — a warm, funny sit-down that starts with train conductors and smoothies before working its way into rehearsal nerves, family, self-doubt, love and the support system that keeps an actor moving.
The stage-and-screen cutie joined Ego Nwodim for the February 10, 2026 episode, running about 77 minutes. And in true Thanks Dad fashion, Segarra begins by thanking the people who quietly make his day better: the New Jersey Transit ticket takers on his morning commute and the gym employee who apparently makes thee perfect smoothie.
He is very serious about that smoothie, too. Segarra praises the exact balance — creamy, not too icy, sweet enough to feel like a treat but still healthy enough to count. Honestly, respect where respect is due.

Rehearsal Is Where Segarra Says the Fire Starts
Once the conversation turns to craft, Segarra gets into something every stage performer knows too well: rehearsal is not supposed to be pretty. He describes that period as “frantic and ugly and beautiful and frenetic” — the stretch where everybody is trying, failing, adjusting and slowly finding the thing that will eventually become the show.
That perspective comes from somebody who has lived both stage and screen. Segarra originated Emilio Estefan in Broadway’s On Your Feet!, and he tells Nwodim that rehearsal is where insecurities and vulnerabilities come spilling out before a performance finally settles into itself.
The two also talk about the particular kind of self-doubt that comes with acting — and how much difference it makes when the people around you are not adding more doubt on top of it.
His Parents Never Treated Acting Like a Crazy Dream
Segarra, who describes himself in the episode as a Puerto Rican kid from Orlando, talks about how completely his parents backed him from the beginning. His father brought him to New York to see theater, and when Josh decided acting was the road, his parents never gave him the dreaded “are you sure?” treatment.
He tells Ego that they even took out a major loan to send him to college in New York. Looking back, that support clearly landed. Segarra talks about his father as a quiet, warm presence, while his mother was the person he could call when he was angry, heartbroken or simply trying to figure out what a feeling meant.
Now with three sons of his own, he says he understands that protective-parent energy a whole lot differently.
Then Comes the Very Josh Segarra Story of Meeting His Wife
And yes, the episode absolutely gets into how he met his wife, Brace. The two first crossed paths at a friend’s birthday party in Hell’s Kitchen when Segarra was 24 and she was 30. She had apparently seen enough actor boys for one lifetime and was not exactly waiting around for another.
Segarra, naturally, went from zero to Josh immediately. When she was getting ready to leave, he hit her with: “what if we’re supposed to get married one day?” They had barely talked. Subtle was not thee strategy.
She texted him at 5 a.m. the next morning — partly to prove she really did have to wake up that early — and eventually agreed to meet him at the spin class he was teaching. The class apparently passed inspection, because here we are.
The Timing of This Revisit Could Not Be Better
Segarra has had plenty going on since the episode dropped, including Abbott Elementary, Sirens, Animal Control and FOX’s Best Medicine, where he plays Sheriff Mark Mylow. And on September 22, 2026 — the same day we are revisiting this conversation — Season 2 premieres on FOX.
